Challenge

The Maclab Chiller Extension project was a critical initiative to boost factory production by adding extra chiller space to accommodate the increased throughput due to an equipment upgrade.

The project faced significant challenges, including the tight installation timing during the client’s off-season to avoid halting production, and the requirement to upgrade the power supply to handle the new equipment.

Additionally, the project had to navigate environmental concerns as the site was located on contaminated land, adding complexity to the construction process.

Approach

We took a proactive approach to ensure the success of the MacLabs Chiller Extension. From the outset, a detailed project plan was developed, with emphasis on clear communication with all stakeholders.

Regular updates through monthly PCG meetings and fortnightly reports kept everyone aligned and informed. The project team also focused on sustainability, reusing excavated contaminated materials on-site to avoid landfill disposal and reduce environmental impact.

Contingency measures were built into the plan, including buffer time for potential delays and careful coordination with the overseas equipment supplier. Financial tracking and project management were streamlined through construction software, ensuring transparency and effective decision-making.

Outcomes

The MacLab Chiller Extension was completed successfully, resulting in a significant increase in the factory’s production capacity. This expansion not only met the immediate needs but also positioned the company for future growth.

The sustainable approach to handling contaminated materials was a great example of environmentally responsible construction practices.

The project was delivered on time for the commencement of MacLabs production season. It was also delivered within budget, and in full compliance with all regulatory standards, showcasing BPM’s ability to manage complex projects while maintaining high standards.
