37 Karekare Rd | Cyclone Remediation

Client: Dr Rick Starr
Project Type: Advisory, Community, Project Funding, Insurance, Residential, Remediation
Project Manager: Dan Bradley, Matt Kotsifakis, Alex Bulley
Location: Auckland, New Zealand

Challenge

The 37 Karekare Rd project was initiated after severe weather events over Auckland Anniversary Weekend and Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023. These events caused devastating damage, leading to the property's classification as Cat 2P under the Auckland Council Property Risk Mitigation Scheme.

The client, Dr Rick Starr engaged BPM to assist with the initial design and consenting process to understand the scope of the works needed, navigate the regulatory approvals involved and provide an overall constructability proposal, including a cost estimate to complete.

Approach

BPM managed a multidisciplinary team, including an RMA Planner, a reputable civil contractor with significant experience in earthworks mitigation, and a registered quantity surveyor with expertise in civil construction. This team conducted a thorough evaluation of the property, resulting in a detailed report that guided the project’s successful execution.

Outcomes

BPM's report was key in clarifying the risks and costs of the remedial works, enabling the client to approach the Auckland Council for re-categorisation of the property.
